A calm, practical checklist for checking your property, documenting what happened and arranging a safe roof inspection.
Start safely from the ground
Do not climb onto a wet or storm-damaged roof. Walk the property only when conditions are safe and look for clues you can see from the ground.
- Photograph hail on the ground and note the date and approximate time.
- Look for shingles or roof debris in the yard.
- Check gutters, downspouts, window screens and outdoor equipment for dents.
- Inside, look for fresh ceiling stains or damp areas after rain.
Arrange a professional inspection
Hail damage can be difficult to see from the driveway. A roof inspection checks the shingle surface, flashing, vents and other vulnerable areas, then documents visible conditions with photos.

If insurance may be involved
